SAGAPONACK WEEKEND RESIDENCE
New York | 2014
In collaboration with Fox-Nahem Associates, studioMDA completed a full interior renovation of this 5,200-square-foot residence across from Gibson Beach in the Village of Sagaponack. The interiors were entirely gutted and reorganized to improve flow and circulation between the home’s spaces and levels.
The previously unfinished basement was transformed to include entertainment spaces, a wine room, sauna, and yoga room. Just outside the yoga room, a new sunken outdoor space with a hot tub and garden was carved into the landscape, bringing natural light and air into the lower level while maintaining privacy.
The primary suite was rebuilt with increased ceiling heights, creating a more generous and functional space with ample room to display the owners’ private art collection. The existing garage was repurposed as a relaxed, beach-inspired hangout, clad in wood and custom designed to accommodate paddleboards and surfboards while providing a transition between exterior and interior.
A new material palette brings together reclaimed barn wood ceilings, stone patios and fireplaces, and custom metal screen doors with intricate patterning, completing the transformation of the residence inside and out.
