"Center for Advanced Mobility is a celebration of technical innovation" - WALLPAPER

“The idea was to bring students and professors together to think about the future of mobility” recounts Markus Dochantschi, director of StudioMDA.

The 7,500 square foot education architecture building appropriately reflects Germany’s position as a leader in technical innovation by holding interdisciplinary collaboration at its core. From housing state-of-the-art testing laboratories, collaborative workspaces and lecture halls, to faculty offices and the largest dining hall on the university’s campus, the dynamic building is dedicated to forging new connections beyond the mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering and information technology departments that it directly serves.

"Timothy Taylor goes big in New York" - FINANCIAL TIMES

The London gallerist Timothy Taylor is set to open a 6,000 square foot gallery in Tribeca, New York, replacing the Chelsea townhouse that he opened in 2016 as his first overseas space. “There has been a big shake-up in our world, in the way a gallery functions and its relationships with artists. PHILLIPS AUCTION HOUSE TO OPEN HAMPTONS LOCATION" - NEW YORK TIMES

Galleries and other commercial art spaces have begun to reopen in New York but some are still choosing to expand outside the city’s limits to reach clients who have decamped because of the coronavirus pandemic. Phillips, one of the world’s top auction houses, will open a new location in Southampton, N.Y., on Friday.

Seeing how the pandemic has been “impacting our operations and our clients has really got us thinking about how to adapt the business,” Edward Dolman, the chief executive for Phillips, said in an interview.

“It made sense to take art that we would traditionally show solely in Manhattan out to where a lot of our clients decided that they were going to be spending much more of their time,” he added.

"THE NEW EMPIRE BUILDERS: HOW PACE AND OTHER ART DEALERS ARE REINVENTING WHAT A GALLERY SPACE SHOULD DO" - ARTNET

The goal for these galleries appears to be to maximize the space available not only to artists, but also to collectors. Paul Kasmin’s latest space on 28th Street includes three private viewing rooms totaling 3,400 square feet, while a mere 460 square feet is set aside for public exhibitions and offices. Viewing rooms “allow us to spend uninterrupted time with collectors and curators in order to discuss a single work in detail,” says Nick Olney, a Kasmin director.

That expansion connects to Kasmin’s 509 West 27th Street flagship, which is studded with a stunning 28 skylights and cost a reported $8 million, according to one source.

"KASMIN GALLERY BY STUDIOMDA" - ARCHITECTURAL RECORD

“The art dealer Paul Kasmin, who got his foothold in SoHo before coming to Chelsea, has just opened his fourth establishment in the neighborhood. These have all been designed by studioMDA, headed by Markus Dochantschi, whose reputation as a gallerists’ architect has increased significantly since he started his New York practice in 2002. Dochantschi started by creating display booths at large art fairs, which then led to permanent galleries for some of the same clients. Kasmin was one: as he says, Dochantschi’s approach is “expressly crafted to show art at its best.”
