PPOW GALLERY (392 Broadway)
New York | 2021
In January 2021, P.P.O.W. Gallery opened its new space designed by studioMDA in Tribeca at 392 Broadway. Having worked within Tribeca’s developing art scene on Bortolami Gallery, Andrew Kreps Gallery, and Luhring Augustine, P.P.O.W. is the fourth addition to studioMDA’s design portfolio in the neighborhood.
The new P.P.O.W. Gallery occupies 9,500 square feet of a historic Tribeca building, boasting 14‘ ceilings. studioMDA’s renovation, which includes multiple exhibition spaces, a viewing room, offices and ample art storage, embraces the existing historical design details including the tin ceiling and restores the historical rear facade. Upon entering the space, visitors are elevated, through a ramp up to the main gallery space before making their way back to the smaller, more intimate viewing rooms. The design includes finishes of both concrete and wood. The front spaces feature concrete floors, giving the gallery a more industrial feel, while wood floors in the back spaces provide warmer environment. The different type of spaces in proportion and material, amplify the flexibility the gallery can provide to artists when showing their work.
