MAX ERNST: PARAMYTHS 1934-1937

KASMIN GALLERY

New York | 2015

Max Ernst: Paramyths 1934–1967 consisted of fourteen sculptures made of bronze and stone, arranged to trace the evolution of Ernst’s artistic style and thematic concerns over a thirty-year period. Exploring Ernst’s use of mythological and fantastical elements, the exhibition reflected his engagement with Surrealism, Dada, and other avant-garde movements. The sky lighting and clean layout of the gallery space allow the sculptures to be highlighted from every angle, providing crisp forms and enhancing the materiality of the artworks. Podiums of varied height group selections of sculptures and bring balance to the room by presenting works of varied height on the same visual plane.
