EAST 78TH STREET TOWNHOUSE

New York | 2019

Built in 1910, this 15,000-square-foot townhouse is located within a historic landmark district on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, just steps from Fifth Avenue. studioMDA undertook a complete gut renovation of the residence, reimagining both its interiors and exterior while responding to its historic context.

A new limestone façade is complemented by French-style windows and doors and decorative cast-iron railings, while the rear façade was redesigned with a stucco finish and new windows. Inside, the entry vestibule opens into a grand foyer defined by a monumental staircase, leading to a generously proportioned family room and kitchen.

Designed for a family of six, the residence includes seven bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a home office, a dedicated staff floor, and three powder rooms. More than 1,500 square feet of outdoor space extends the home beyond its interiors, including a private patio adjacent to the home office within the primary suite and a spacious roof deck.
